Standing Rock Warriors fall victim to Tigers

Posted 2/11/13 (Mon)

Mobridge-Pollock defeated the Standing Rock Warriors for the second time this season on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Mobridge. The Tigers swept past the Warriors, 70-54.
The Warriors went out early as M-P dealt with turn overs and couldn't get their inside shots to fall. The Warriors used three point shooting to build an, 8-3, lead. The Tigers got their offense clicking in a big way in the final 2:12. They mixed up their attack scoring off breaks, on the inside and off steals. They out scored the Warriors ten to three to take a,  15-11, lead at the quarter.
M-P opened the second quarter with a trey and built a, 19-13, lead before Standing Rock staged a comeback with yet another trey and some scoring from the charity stripe. At mid quarter, they trailed by just four, 22-18. M-P again dominated in the later part of the quarter. Their press hindered the Warriors and they out scored them 16 to six to open up a 14 point halftime edge, 38-24.
The opening four minutes of the second half were not pretty for the Tigers. After an opening bucket, the Tigers had way more turnovers than baskets and the Warriors cut the lead back to ten, 42-32. The tide turned at mid quarter and it was the Warriors that couldn't get shots to drop. Over a two minute stretch, M-P drooped in ten and the Warriors zero. Momentum switched one more time and in the final 1:39 Standing Rock out scored the Tigers eight to two leaving them down 14, 54-40, at the break.
During the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, each team cashed in eight. The Tigers using their inside game and the Warriors depending more on the trey. M-P stretched their lead to 18 with six unanswered points in the later part of the quarter. M-P got only two free shots in the final 2:30 and the Warriors scored twice cutting the Tigers’ win margin back to 16, 70-54.
