Mobridge-Pollock hands Todd County, 70-62, loss

The Tigers had to hold off a fourth quarter surge by the Falcons to pull off another win Saturday night, Feb. 2 in Mobridge. Free throw shooting down the stretch helped the Tigers seal their, 70-62, win.
M-P held the early lead in the match up on the strength of their inside game but Todd County grabbed a slim lead several times during mid quarter action. The Tigers closed out the quarter with a six point run that put them up five, 15-10.
The Tigers kept their offense on track with another quick three buckets to open the second quarter but then they went quiet. Over the next three minutes they scored only once. Todd County on the other hand warmed up at least from the charity stripe. They went seven of seven and closed to within six, 25-19. After the exchange of a couple of buckets M-P got a free shot and basket to go back up seven. Todd County answered with a free shot and bucket of their own late to pull back within four. M-P sank a three to end the half and led, 33-26.
M-P pulled away by 12 as the second half opened, but Todd County turned the tide three minutes in. They went on an eight point run that included two treys and were within four. After a drought of almost 1:30, the Tigers finally scored again at 3:40. They sandwiched a couple more buckets between a couple of turn overs. Todd County got a bucket and three more from the charity stripe. A trey by M-P but them up seven late. The Falcons answered with two quick baskets but once again the Tigers got the last bucket of the quarter and it put them up five, 51-46.
Todd County controlled the tempo of the game as the final quarter opened. They held the Tigers scoreless for two and half minutes while putting up six of their own and taking the lead, 52-51. With 5:20 to go, M-P finally scored with a couple of free shots following a TO by the Falcons. They got another bucket off another TO  to lead, 55-52. Todd County tied the game back up at, 57-57 with three minutes to go. The Tigers offense was tested at the line at that point and they went five of six while giving up nothing to the Falcons. With just over a minute to go M-P got a bucket and Todd County drilled a trey to pull back within four, 64-60. The Tigers were again tested at the line in the closing seconds. They finished out the game by going six of eight and giving up just a bucket to come away with an eight point win, 70-62.
